Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, one of the chief architects of the Democrats’ leftward shift, has hit out at her party for fielding candidates like the centrist Joe Biden, and said “we’re not allowed to talk” about party division.
Ocasio-Cortez considers herself “one of the most hated people in America,” she told New York Magazine in an interview published on Monday. Since a surprise electoral victory over a 10-term incumbent Democrat in 2018, she’s since become the face of her party’s emboldened progressive wing, alongside ‘The Squad’ of fellow Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib (Michigan), Ilhan Omar (Minnesota) and Massachusetts’ Ayanna Pressley.
