Transition surgery is being pushed in America right now as a life-or-death issue. Proponents argue that allowing “gender-affirming” care to be performed on teenagers will prevent them from committing suicide. But as more doctors and hospitals advertise these procedures, we are also seeing more adults speaking out about the surgeries they received as teens. So is this all in the service of mental health or just another way for the medical industry to pad their bottom line? And how do other countries around the world approach transgender surgeries?
