For all the parallels between the hottest phases of the Cold War and the current tensions between East and West, there’s at least one crucial difference. The neutrality of some European nations that was consciously created and maintained as a balancer between the two camps in the 20th century is no more. On the contrary, the neutral status of Ukraine, the basis of post-Cold War stability, is now in ruins. What does this mean for security in Europe?
