‘They are Nazis, they [Ukrainian army] have been torturing us for eight years. Now they want to show they protect Ukraine,’ says a local man near one of the Mariupol basements. He, like other citizens, had to hide there without food, water and heat when Ukrainian troops controlled the city. Locals tell how they had to bury friends, relatives, and neighbours killed by the Ukraine army. ‘I want to ask Zelenskiy personally. How could this happen? After all, there was a humane way to solve this. And he, the scoundrel, decided to destroy us?’ says another local. Only after liberating the city by the Russian army and the Donbass militia Mariupol residents can feel safe. Today they are beginning to rebuild the city and returning back to normal life.
