Russian and US military aircraft flew within five feet of one another high above the international waters of the Eastern Mediterranean. Several such interactions occurred over the weekend. Another incident occurred over Syria, according to anonymous officials, while another tense US-Russian encounter happened in the Pacific. At a time of heightened tension between the superpowers, such encounters can have tremendous and terrible implications. Luckily, the incident didn’t rise to the level of open hostility.
