While US media focuses on exhaustive coverage of protests in Cuba, John Huddy (in for Rick Sanchez) asks why there is so muted a reaction to the more destructive and widespread riots taking place in South Africa. More than 200 people have died in the violent riots sweeping an increasingly chaotic South Africa, and the death toll is climbing as authorities and communityra leaders struggle to contain the carnage as looting, stampedes, mob violence and arson continue to devastate the troubled country.
The pandemonium was sparked by the conviction and sentencing of allegedly corrupt former President Jacob Zuma, who maintains his innocence. RT’s Paula Slier reports from the scene before joining live with more details of what she sees on the ground. She also explains how the COVID-19 situation has exacerbated the unrest and violences. This summer has seen historically high temperatures around the world.
