Last week, US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and the United Arab Emirates had reached a historic agreement to establish diplomatic relations. The UAE is the first Arab-majority nation in the Persian Gulf, and the third in the Middle East, to normalize ties with Tel Aviv after Egypt and Jordan did so in 1979 and 1994, respectively.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that he did not inform Defence Minister and Alternate Prime Minister Benny Gantz about peace negotiations with the UAE because he feared that the Blue and White Party might accidentally leak the information to the press, sparking an Iranian response.
