The recent Hamas attacks inside Israel and subsequent Israeli bombardment of Gaza has sent shockwaves across the Middle East. One of the immediate consequnces: an unprecedented direct conversation between Saudi Arabian leader Price Mohammed bin Salman and Iranian leader Ebrahim Raisi so that the rival nations could confer about the fate of Palestine. The question is whether these conversations and others among world leaders will be able to prevent the conflict in Gaza from spiraling into a larger war across the Middle East and beyond.
