Four people have been stabbed in a supermarket in Dunedin on New Zealand’s South Island, but the country’s prime minister has dismissed links with terrorism as officers label the incident a ‘random attack’.

Speaking on Monday, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the attack at a supermarket earlier that day did not appear to be motivated by “domestic” terrorism. “There is nothing to suggest, from the police’s perspective, that this is what they would define as a domestic terror event,” Ardern told reporters.
