GOP Congressman Michael McCaul from Texas recently revealed to NBC News host Chuck Todd that the U.S. “defense” of Taiwan is all about money, specifically concerns about the semiconductor industry. When pressed if this was essentially a war for semiconductors like Iraq had been a war for oil, McCaul realizes his error and begins vomiting up boilerplate defenses of militarism with words like “freedom” and “democracy.”
