A mob of Trump supporters breached the US capitol during a historic joint session of Congress wherein legislators affirmed President-elect Joe Biden’s triumph in the 2020 presidential election. The action came in after Vice President Mike Pence and Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnel (R-Kentucky) affirmed their Constitutional obligation to recognize the victory of President-elect Joe Biden despite President Trump’s continued refusal to accept his loss in the election. Tear gas and rubber bullets have been deployed at Capitol Hill and both houses of Congress are being placed on recess as Washington, DC orders a 6pm curfew. The National Guard remains on standby, as thousands of Trump supporters descend for a “Stop the Steal” protest.
