Protesters ransack govt buildings in Ecuador’s Quito as mayor claims Moreno will RECONSIDER anti-austerity policies

After another day of unrest in Ecuador’s capital Quito, which saw protesters blocking roads and breaking into government buildings, President Lenin Moreno agreed to reconsider the controversial cancellation of fuel subsidies.

Due to “the complexity of the situation,” Moreno will take another look at Decree 883, which enraged the people so much, Quito Mayor, Jorge Yunda Machado, announced on Twitter. It was one of the austerity measures introduced by the government to meet the conditions of $4.2 billion loan deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
